Overview

Set of books containing different aspects of dressmaking in the early 20th century. Illustrated. Volumes include Sewing Materials, Harmony in Dress and Tailored Garments. All three books bound in dark blue cloth with blindstamped title and cameo design on front board. Missing volume three of four. DJs have several pieces missing. Volume two has 3" closed tear on front and chipping. Volume one has foxing on fore edge. Pickens was one of the five founding directors of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. She also founded the Woman's Institute of Arts and Sciences in Pennsylvania and has written an extensive range of sewing reference books.
