A first edition copy of color cartoonist, Max Barsis' light-hearted and good-humored depiction of women in the armed forces during the height of World War II. The main feature of this collection is "The Story of the Twins, Maribelle and Claribelle: Two Babes in Arms who became Women at Arms." In the narrative cartoon, one of these sisters joins the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAACS) while the other joins the Navy-affiliated Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service (WAVES). Historically, women in these military divisions took on crucial work in the war, ranging from communications and clerical work to aviation support and manufactoring. Dust jacket unclipped. Several instances of toning to jacket edges and spine, with light foxing to top edge of jacket's back cover. Very slight chipping with loss at top edge of jacket, with two closed tears repaired with tape on inside top edge. Tan cloth boards, fully bound, red stamped title. Moderate foxing to cover and pastedowns.
