This copy has gilt edges that are still very shiny. The detailing on the cover board and spine is embossed. There is some edge-wear, and the corners are curled in. While no date is printed as part of the publilcation, a previous owner penned "Christmas 1882" on the front cover page. The pages have faded with age, but there are no other markings. The spine is cracked in the front and at page 391. The binding is holding, but must be handled with care. There are lovely woodblock illustrations printed throughout, adding a storybook feel to the accompanying poems. This is a beautiful poetry collection that includes explanatory notes not part of earlier versions.
