Overview

Richard D. Mandell tells the story of the 1936 Olympics, which were hosted by Nazi Germany. He argues that the event was not a simple sporting event, but instead a public spectacle used to catapult the Nazi regime's image on the world stage. In light of this, he questions whether the Olympics as we know it should even continue if it has the power to be in service of such atrocity, and that if it must continue as a sporting competiition it ought to be divorced from nationalism lest history repeat itself. This copy is in excellent shape aside from underlining, but the underliner was very scrupulous and sparing in what they underlined.
