When published it was a popular, illustrated book intended for the general public, emphasizing natural remedies and healthy living. Exquisitely bound in brown cloth covered boards with beautiful black stamped design and gilt detailing. Boards are bumped along all edges with rubbing to the cloth at spine ends and corners. Hinges have been repaired with brown cloth, hollow backed. Faint marble design along all edges, flecked with critter stains. Closed tear at foot of first free endpaper, 1 1/2" by 1".
