The names of the countries sound like music when Mina reads them aloud. The oceans curl and the countries glow in many colors. Teddy's heart beats faster. He thinks about clouds and trains, drums and lanterns, gardens and markets, new foods, new words, and new friends, until the room's edges feel as far away as the sky.

It gets quiet in the house that night, and the rain taps on the windows. The compass button starts to glow, from a small spark to a steady light. With a gentle breeze, Teddy sets the map out on the floor. It looks like the paper is breathing. The compass flashes again, and a small red dot lights up like an offer. It sounds like someone is saying, "Go see."

Teddy pulls his scarf tighter and puts a small notebook, a pencil that is about the length of a finger, and a small keepsake pouch into the backpack that is already there. He then looks back at Mina's nightlight and sees that the lampshade has turned into a little moon. He says he will bring stories to your house. The door closes with a click. Teddy starts his trip to learn about the world with a sound that is both soft and steady, like a dream.
