Includes 10 volumes of Stoddard's Lectures with 3 supplements; missing #1 & #5 supplements. John Lawson Stoddard was an American lecturer, author and photographer. He was a pioneer in the use of the stereopticon or magic lantern, adding photographs to his popular lectures about his travels around the world. Because he published books related to his travels, he is credited with developing the genre of travelogues. (Wikipedia). Half leather boards (spine & corners) with marbled boards and gilted accents and lettering. Intricate floral patterns on ffep. Much of the leather is chipping off (presumably due to its age) but all volumes are tight and intact. This turn of the century travelog set is fascinating in its own right and great for any collector!
