Originally published in 1635, Quarles' collection of "emblems" paraphrases and expounds upon scriptural verses. A beautiful copy, bound in green boards with gilt embossed titles and decorations on the boards and spine. Binding is badly shaken. The rear board is completely detached and the front hinge is completely split, but thus far all the registers remain attached. Considerable rubbing to the corners of the boards, including some minor fraying. Contemporary gift inscriptions adorn both free endpapers.
