Pictures of Soul is an improvised collaboration between Cuban pianist Omar Sosa and New York-based percussionist Adam Rudolph. Both share an appreciation for ritual trance music. Their approach calls simply for an openness to explore musical landscapes together, without rehearsal. The album provides a wide range of expression, from delicate introspection to fiery dance. Omar plays mostly acoustic piano, and Adam uses an array of hand drums, including djembe, tarija, dumbek and tabla. The result is a poignant aural journey into the transcendent realms of the creative music process
