In 1939, bestselling novelist Louis Bromfield established Malabar Farm in southern Richland County, Ohio. At Malabar Farm he soon became an outspoken advocate for sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. Louis Bromfield died in March of 1956. In 1972, the State of Ohio was given Malabar Farm, and in 1976, opened it as Malabar Farm State Park.
