Overview

This two volume set of Plutarch's Lives is translated by Sir Thomas North and considered a monumental work in literature. Rather than translating from the original Greek, North famously based his work on the 1559 French translation by Jacques Amyot. This translation is most celebrated as the primary source material William Shakespeare used for his Roman plays. Shakespeare borrowed heavily from North's accounts of Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus. Comes with a slipcase. Slipcase a little worn and faded on the outside, some discoloration on the inside. Books have a beautiful red speckling on the edges. No visibile discrepancies on books.
