The day between now and then. The supernatural holds a fascination for all humans. But make no mistake - mortality also holds a fascination for those of us who are supernatural. So, we all live in a world of mystery and unexplained things. I live my life as best I can and hope that after I am gone I will have contributed something to it. My name is Jesse Holbrook and I belong to a group that is not for your average person. I am a werewolf. My mother was a werewolf before me and her mother before her. I come from a town in Maine where there is a larger-than-normal population of supernatural beings. I have two brothers and one sister. I am the oldest, with my brother Brent being second, my sister Kate is next, and my brother Simon is the baby of the family. When I talk about the supernatural there are two types of beings I refer to. Werewolves are the first type and vampires are the second. As far as werewolves go, we are nothing like the legends make us out to be. First of all, silver does not kill us. We can be killed like anyone else, but it just takes a lot more damage. We can regenerate our bodies so if we lose something it will grow back. This also helps us heal and expands our lives but, by no means are we immortals; we just live longer. When we change into werewolves, the change is almost instantaneous. It is never painful like the movies show. We also have heightened senses like that of a wolf (of course). We differ like that of any race; some are stronger, some have better healing, and some have better senses. However, we do tend to be stronger and faster than most humans. We also do not automatically change during the full moon. That is just the time when we feel closest to our animal side. And just so you know, my storie begins not with me, not with my parents, and not with my brothers and sister. It starts with my grandmother. She was a werewolf from many generations ago. She married a mortal man from Dublin in the 1890's. Then she and her husband left Ireland on a transatlantic ocean liner that happened to land off the coast of Maine. She finally settled down in Timber Grove and never saw a reason for leaving. When my werewolf grandmother started a new life in America, my parents were the next to start a family of their own. My mother is also a werewolf and like my grandmother married a regular guy here in Maine. He was a great father considering everything he had to deal with as we grew up. We were all born in the U.S. but still had the Irish traits of being rowdy, playful, boisterous, and short-tempered. And when my siblings and I were born, you can imagine things got a little complicated because it was hit-and-miss with who got the supernatural powers. Two of us were born as werewolves and the other two of us were born as mortals. Talk about your sibling rivalry. As we grew up, it became more pronounced as one of my brothers and I developed the natural abilities of the werewolf, while the others did not. That's when our sibling rivalry began. It's been chaos ever since.
