John Milton achieved fame and recognition during his lifetime as an English poet, polemicist, and civil servant. Milton's magnum opus, the blank-verse epic poem Paradise Lost, was composed by the blind and impoverished Milton from 1658 to 1664, which he dedicated to a series of aides in his employ. Paradise Lost addressed the fall of man, including the temptation of Adam and Eve. Published circa 1830s this charming edition of Milton's Poetical Works consists of; Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained, Mask of Comus, Samson Agonistes, and Poems on Several Occasions, presented together with the Life of the Author complete in one volume. Bound in red leather with gilt decoration and lettering. Hinges cracked but holding, bumped and rubbed along edges. First free endpaper has two inch open tear in upper right corner. All edges gilt.
