Overview

John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough was England's premier commander during the War of Spanish Succession. He managed a successful, but sometimes brittle coalition of Dutch, Prussian, Danish and various German armies against the French, Bavarian, Spanish and other German states campaigning in Flanders and Germany.

This book covers four of his greatest, most defining battles; Blenheim, Ramillies, Malplaquet and Oudenarde. These battles were all won despite the interference of the Dutch and the different objectives of the other allies.

What makes this book both instructive and fun is the inclusion of battle maps and pictures of miniature soldiers in select battle scenes to help illustrate the combat and uniforms of that period. There is even a set of wargame rules for anyone who would seek to recreate the battles in miniature.
