Former cop, Sam Schafer, left the Cook County Penal Institution after being incarcerated for 8-years. He had been a decorated, honest cop until he became involved with crooked co-workers. Having an insatiable desire for things, he resorted to stealing to get what he wanted. His greatest regret was the fall-out from his effort to get more things. The person he loved most, Marla Schafer, couldn't be protected and was incarcerated for 7-years because she was complicit in the crimes of her husband. Marla became an angry woman and trusted no one, especially Sam. As convicted felons, they faced a new normal. Their beautiful home, money, and careers were gone. Sam's life would be tolerable if he could simply talk to Marla.
