Overview

Arnold Bennett was a prolific English author during the turn of the 20th Century who "strongly believed that literature should be accessible to ordinary people ... During his lifetime his journalistic 'self-help' books sold in substantial numbers," of which, "Literary Taste" is one of many (Wikipedia). In it, Bennett constructs the ideal English library in three periods. After his death, a revised edition was released in 1937 by essayist Frank Swinnerton, the additions of which are helpful in dating this otherwise undated printing. Paper-wrapped brown boards with stamped title on front cover, featuring a gilt initial and gilt titles on spine.Bottom page edge deckled. Rubbing to edges with moderate rubbing to fore corners, some splitting. Minor foxing to fore edge. Moderate split in binding between pages 32-3, minor split at 96-7, with binding in both places and throughout still holding without loss.
