From his earliest childhood, Leonardo was characterized by his insatiable thirst for knowledge. He asked the reason for things and spent long hours attentively contemplating nature. He was a captive of his immense curiosity, a quality that would characterize him until the end of his days.
Leonardo's way of learning was through drawing; he drew everything that caught his attention. It was his way of appropriating nature to examine it conscientiously. Leonardo found drawing the most accessible and stimulating form of self-expression; pen and crayon came so naturally to him that he seemed to have been born drawing.
