Overview

James Harrod, a contemporary of Daniel Boone, George Rogers Clark, Simon Kenton, and others, was a hunter, woodsman, and soldier in the Virginia, Ohio, & Kentucky frontiers. He fought in the French and Indian War, Lord Dunsmore's Indian Campaigns, and countless other border skirmishes. In 1774, he founded the first American settlement in Kentucky, now known as Harrodsburg. In 1792 he left on a hunting expedition and was never seen again. Originally published in 1951, this biography was written by a descendant, Kathryn Harrod Mason. It remains today the fullest account of the frontiersman's life.
