A tight, neat, early edition of the 18th-century poetical works of Irish writer Oliver Goldsmith and English poet William Collins: separate volumes dedicated to each but bound together. Includes an unattributed account of Goldsmith’s life and writings; Samuel Johnson’s The Life of William Collins; and Critical Observations on Collins’ works by John Langhorne (originally published in 1765).
New York: M. & W. Ward, 1811. Hardback 16mo. Two volumes bound as one. Pp 1-72, 1-94. Contemporary brown calf; gilt decoration to borders and edges of front and rear boards; gilt decoration and black morocco title label to spine; marbled endpapers; two engraved frontispieces. Condition: Very good plus. Boards scuffed and rubbed; corners slightly bumped; number label pasted to spine; previous owner pencil signature and stamp to front blank; owner stamp to first title page; ½-inch loss to lower corner of page 51 of volume 2, not affecting text; foxing throughout.
