First edition copy of Elizabeth Hawes' Fashion Is Spinach, with decorations by Alexey Brodovitch. A critique and expose on fashion at the time, Hawes' fought the popular myth that "all good fashion comes from France," and sought to break down gender-specific fashion stereotypes. The boards have significant shelfwear and handling damage. stains, dents and colors chipping. The spine is cocked and the interior has some staining and age wear, and between page 20 and 21 there is some spine separation. Nevertheless, this is an interesting look at pre-WWII fashion.
