The back of the dustjacket has a photograph of Steinbeck with no reviews."First published by The Viking Press in September 1952" on the copyright page with no statements of subsequent printings, and 1952 on the title page. Dust jacket has some chipping along the edges, most significant on the spine, where there is large pieces chipped on on the top and bottom edge. Board on spine has some rubbing and fraying on the edges. Some minor foxing on pages. Page 283 was cut uneven and has a larger portion of paper near the bottom fore-edge and tail.
