"Everything was in readiness when Hamilton caused the ceremony to be suspended for a moment. This he did to remove his spectales, to which he cleaned very carefully. He was undoubtedly bothered by the glare of the sun on the water, but it is said to have attributed this to dust on his glasses. Then came the word "present"!
