Overview

This is a very scarce first edition of The Buried Candelabrum. Only 500 numbered first editions were printed with copies one through thirty being signed by the author. This is copy number 18. Signed by Zweig on the colophon. In the original German text, this story retells an old Jewish story of the seven-branched candlestick which once stood in the Holy of Holies in Jerusalem and which Titus brought back with him to Rome after the destruction of the Temple. Red leather binding with gilt spine title, cover vignette, and gilt top edge. Red illustrations present throughout the text. Spine is darkened with sun damage, rubbing to edges of spine. and top right corner is heavily bumped. Comes with slipcase that exhibits similar damage and rubbing.
