It includes the unique feature of quotes from veterans who served at Normandy in June 1944 and their photos, many never-before-published (front and back covers contain these photos). The stories are based on the author's interviews with 250 World War II veterans. Additional research was provided by her participation in a WWII tour of Europe that included standing on Omaha Beach on June 6th.Each military branch is recognized. Special attention is given to men who were wounded; shot down and taken prisoner; a chaplain who ministered to the battle-weary; a seaman who volunteered for a special project that made him a 'sitting duck' for the Nazis.
