In this previously unpublished 1975 novel, Donald Newlove (1928-2021) recounts his journey towards metaphysical enlightenment, visited along the way by the unsettled spirit of Cynara, his "great love," who died tragically at the age of 26. (The character of Cynara first appeared in Newlove's 1972 novel Leo & Theodore which, along with its 1974 sequel The Drunks, was published in 1978 as Sweet Adversity and reissued by Tough Poets Press in 2019.)
