Published posthumously, Rister's work pulls from numerous first-hand accounts to tell the story of Dr. John Charles Beales' ill-fated attempt to found a colony in the heart of Comanche country in the 1830s. This copy is inscribed by the historian's wife to a family friend. Minor chipping around the edges of the dust jacket as well as some fading to spine. The book has minor rubbing to the bottom edges of the boards.
