This journal was kept by British Major John André, known for conspiring with Benedict Arnold, from June 11, 1777 to November 15, 1778 and was undiscovered until 1902. This two volume set is one of 487 copies printed for members of the Bibliophile Society. It is bound in vellum with a gold border and coat of arms on the front boards and gilt top edge. The frontis engraved portrait in volume I is signed by the designer Wm. F. Hopson. Frontis engraved portrait in volume II signed by the engraver. All maps and facsimile pages are present and undamaged except for a 1 inch closed tear on the first fold-out map in volume I. The original slipcases are missing, resulting in minor bowing of the boards and some loss to the gilt boarder and coat of arms. The gilt on the top edge has a few scratches.
