John J. McBrearty entered the United States Marine Corps in 1979 as a Private and was Honorably Discharged as a Captain. After a break in service, the U. S. Army recalled him back to duty. Following battalion command, John J. McBrearty's 32-year military career culminated in his position as the Brigade Executive Officer, 100th Troop Command, California Army National Guard. His career spanned the globe with operations in Iraq, Kuwait, Japan, Australia, Mexico, and Thailand. His actions and over 32 years of military duty are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service, and he was recognized for this by President Barak Obama. In 2016 John McBrearty retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, U. S. Army. John J. McBrearty, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Valley Forge Military Academy and College, as well as Temple University. He also holds a master's degree in American history from the American Public University and served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at California State University, San Bernardino. His unique multi-service career, increasingly significant military assignments and combat action give him insight into the importance of American history and freedom. John J. McBrearty's work has been published or featured in Sports Illustrated, Golf Week, Stars and Stripes, Callaway Magazine, Grizzly Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register, Main Line Times, News of Delaware County, Daily Bulletin, San Bernardino Sun, Press Enterprise, and others. Having joined the ranks of the "retired," John is active with several Veterans Affairs support groups. He is a golf instructor and an avid player.
