Overview

In 1890, two American students at Washington University, Thomas Gaskell Jr. and William Sachtleben, one day after graduation, embark on a life changing venture – a 15,044 mile long bicycle journey across Asia, on the newly popular modern bicycle, which would take them just under three years. This first edition features photos and illustrations of their aventures. The condition is Very Good. The clothbound boards are worn but undamaged, and have retained their original gilded embellishments. There is some foxing to the top of the textblock, but the gilt is still intact and bright there as well. Between the final page of text and the endpapers, gauze is exposed in the gutter. However, the spine is otherwise holding tightly. Bookplates from a previous owner appear to have been removed on the inside of each cover. First Edition.
