Early Wartime Reprint of this wildly successful book, based on the lived experiences of Betty Smith living in poverty through the 1930's. Back cover of dust jacket features a portrait of the author and the title "Buy War Bonds!" What follows is a memorable example of WWII propaganda in support of Allied war efforts. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was one of the most popular Armed Services Edition books manufactured for and provided to soldiers, and Smith was publicly appreciative to the immense amount of fan mail from soldiers (Wikipedia). Dust jacket is unclipped, moderate instances of chips with loss to spine of jacket, minor instances of loss on front cover, and minimal instances to back cover. Deckled edges. Red cloth boards, fully bound. Book has retained a definite smoke smell.
