A. Edward Newton was an avid reader and book collector, always traveling to London to find whatever we were lacking here in the states in the early 20th century. A Tourist in Spite of Himself is about his wife making him travel the world instead of spending his travels nose deep in books. This copy came to us with a hand types letter from A Edward Newton himself returning a letter to a fan of this book talking about the title's success. In this book was also some old family photos some dated from the 30's. It is possible that these photos come from the recipient of the book and letter Mr. Hillier Krieghbaum, but we can't be sure.
The Dust Jacket is still intact, there are some tears and chipping around the spine. Pages 36 or 37 have deep brown staining on either side of the gutter. The top of the stain is cracking but there is no warping that comes with water damage. We think it might be stained from a leather bookmark or a plant used as a bookmark.
