Henry Shoemaker collected the details of the bison he believed were native to Pennsylvania in the early days, including his imagined Bison americanus Pennsylvanicus, a smaller wood bison that lived among the forests of the Keystone State. Included are anecdotes and details from the experts on the subject in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Most entertaining, however, are the tales and descriptions of the various legendary hunters of the region, who hunted and shot them. This newly edited and indexed edition includes a foreword by Lawrence Knorr and numerous new annotations detailing and supporting or refuting the claims made by Shoemaker. Details about the men mentioned by Shoemaker are also provided, when they could be found.
