Overview

Tuxedo Park was a planned recreational community created by Pierre Lorillard approximately 38 miles north of New York City in 1886. This very private community was populated by the wealthy and social set of the Guilded Age. The jacket named the "Tuxedo" originated at The Tuxedo Club. Mansions such as Kincraig were built by the millionaires of the time to supplement their mansions on 5th Avenue in New York City. The author's grandfather was the superintendent and head gardener of the Kincraig estate. The author describes how Kincraig came about and his life growing up with his family and his reflections on some of the wealthiest owners who lived in this very private community.
