A first edition, first state (with no disclaimer on the verso of the dedication) of Hemingway's moving novel of World War I. A good copy only. Boards are significantly rubbed, with some fraying at the edges. Head and foot of spine are also chipped and frayed, with some chipping to the label on the spine. Front hinge is completely split. Front joint is starting. But binding remains strong.
